I CAN SEE IT ALL FROM MY WINDOW

I CAN SEE IT ALL FROM MY WINDOW (2022)

Oil, pastel, stick on canvas (150 cm x 100 cm)

By Precious Opara

“‘I Can See All From My Window’ (2022) is an extended response to ‘Much to do Inside’ (2022), providing additional context to the series. We are presented with the artist’s bedroom and the same form interacting with the potted plant as it lulls the figure to sleep. The portal of the window depicts the outside as a distant, foggy realm. The out-of-focus landscape presents the distance of the exterior world when one chooses the reclusiveness of indoors. Opara is demonstrating ideas of losing grip on true nature, demanding replacements of flora in house plants, and the sky mirrored in her bedding. The dark background here is no longer a vilified, ominous presence. Instead, it demonstrates the contrast of the indoors to the out.”
