“Following a recent Residency in Italy, Opara started looking closely at water as a powerful narrative tool for expression. The concept of elation is key in this series of works. Deeply immersed underwater, surrounded by silence and darkness in a suspension of the senses, the artist gets in touch with her inner self and carefully listens to her thoughts. The pressure of water’s weight is contrasted with feelings of lightness, relaxation, freedom and absolute peace.”
