“In this composition human form becomes partially distorted, merging with the surroundings and blurring the line between water and the body. Through sensuous imagery, detailed elements and smooth, free-flowing forms, Opara presents the interaction of the body in water as a calming yet dangerous happening. In the words of curator Mollie E Barnes, Precious Opara plays with the subtleties of surrealism, where ‘water is characterised by the artist as a fabric, pulling and enveloping the figure.’ She notes that ‘water has agency here,’ demonstrating the importance of interaction and climate responsibility.”
